The Slate Health Process
Understanding the process of seeing a specialist helps you as a patient, and us as practitioners to get the most out of the appointment time. Feel free to ask us further questions prior to your appointment in order to ensure you are satisfied with you experience.
Dietitian vs Nutritionist
An Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) is also a qualified nutritionist, so yes a dietitian is the same, however a nutritionist is not a dietitian.
Dietitians are qualified to provide the same range of evidence based nutrition services, but in addition, dietitians have the expertise to provide individual dietary counselling, medical nutrition therapy, group dietary therapy and food service management. A dietitian has not only completed a more detailed level of scientific study, but also has gained experience in the professional practice in clinical nutrition, medical nutrition therapy and food service management.
What you will achieve
We all have different health goals, however we aim for each patient of The Slate Health to improve their current level of health and increase their knowledge and understanding of what good nutrition means for them.
When we meet initially we will take a diet history, which can also be filled out prior, and assess you based on your current nutritional needs in relation to your lifestyle. From here we will then look to understand your health goals, and then recommend methods to achieve these. We will then follow up with you in subsequent appointments, looking to extend on the initial goals and achieve even beyond them.
We recommended for most patients to consider the process taking a minimum of two to three appointments, with the average patient having five appointments over three months, inline with the Medicare rebate offer.
What is right for you?
Whether you are looking to see a Dietitian or any other practitioner, you need to look for the best solution for you. Unfortunately we as an APD we are unable to provide any reviews or testimonials due to the professional guidelines we adhere by (Link here):
Consider what fits best for you, as some prefer a non-scientific approach, which we wholly support. Note, we can also work within any treatment plans you may have under other modalities and are keen to hear more about your current healthcare practitioners in more detail during your appointment.
